gogglesyndrome: (it's cool)

[Child-logic says that since he can't send it to her, and he doesn't really remember her address anyway, he'll just glue it down to his journal for his own personal amusement.]

January first...new year. Let's make this a better one then! Today's a good start already, right?

So hey, name something you want to get done in the next year, I'm curious. Me? I'm still figuring that out, I want to do a lot.

[And despite the fresh snow, Taichi's currently up in his tree house just lounging around and probably writing more postcards for his own amusement. Just in case.]

Dude seriously, you gotta explain about this Beast Spirit stuff and Duskmon.

... I never did get around to doing that, did I? I've got the time now.

Which do you want to hear about first first?

Probably the Beast Spirit. Duskmon can wait. So, what is it?

We ten Legendary Warriors each have a Human Spirit and a Beast Spirit. The Human Spirit looks, well, human. Mine is Agnimon, and he's the Spirit of Fire. A Human Spirit is pretty much just a human with superpowers, easy to use and control.

Beast Spirits are a little trickier. They're pretty... violent and they don't listen to reason well. They're more powerful, but it takes a lot to control them and not just lose yourself to instincts... It takes practice and a really strong will. None of us got it our fi- wait, no. Izumi was the only one that didn't rampage on us.

Er, anyway. My Beast Spirit is Vritramon... and I'm pretty sure they took him away because he could toast the whole village.

...man, totally not fair! I mean it would suck to burn down the whole village and stuff and having to control the Beast Spirit, but it also sounds totally awesome at the same time. I mean Agumon's a good fighter and all, but sometimes I wished I could have helped him more. Do you have better control of Vritramon now though? They probably took him away for that reason, yeah. We're not allowed to be better than they are, apparently.

[And he finally pauses to breathe] ...Izumi? [Yes, he's thinking of his red-head buddy, so what.]

It was pretty cool! Flying was always the best part. And the fighting was pretty cool too. I can't even picture not fighting the enemies myself, that's probably a whole lot scarier than running in to fight the bad guys head on. [And he totally means that. The idea of his friends in trouble is enough to make him squirm and gives him the urge to go find the other two living with him.] Yeah. I got the hang of it after the first time... But maybe they'll give him back. I kind of miss him.

[And his mind is sort of flying straight back to her Beast Spirit since they're on the topic. Whoops.] She's got the Spirits of the Wind.

Seriously not fair. But it was always kind of hard having to stand by and let our Digimon fight, the only thing we could do to help them was help them evolve to a higher level with our crests and maybe create a distraction sometimes. We spent a lot of time trying not to die, it was crazy. They might, but I dunno if he'd be at his full strength. But I also have no idea who you'd ask for something like that.

Oh, it's a girl. [Well that's a relief at least.] So you've got the Spirits of Fire, she's got the Wind, what's left?

Oh, jeez... When the Toucanmon took our D-Scanners we were in the same boat. That was hard enough the one time. But I guess it's something you get used to after a while? [A sigh] Probably not. But it'd be good to know he's not being misused or even falling into the bad guys hands.

Yup. The only one we got. [Alright, thinking.] Well, Kouji's got the Spirits of Light. Tomoki's got Ice. Junpei has Thunder... I'm not really too sure what Kouichi has, come to think of it. I'll have to ask him.

But the bad guys have Water, Wood, Earth, Steel, and Dark.

We got used to it, but there were a couple of times where it really didn't help, especially when our team fell apart and split up. [He hums a bit in thought] I doubt he's being used by them, they probably don't even know how to.

Huh. That's so...weird. So does that mean that once you defeat the bad guys, you can take over their spirits or something?

... Probably not the best battle plan in the world. But you guys always found each other in the end, right? [Totally epic frowning.] Here's hoping. I really, really don't want to try to fight him.

Yeah. We take their code and purify them from evil and help heal the Digital World. We're all supposed to be fighting on the side of good, after all... but they can do the same thing to us.

They were usually my fault, even if it wasn't on purpose. But you're right, we always found each other just in time to get the job done. I doubt they'll make you fight him; too much effort on their part, you know?

But how do you purify it or whatever? And have they done the same thing to you guys?

Everybody makes mistakes. It's just a part of being in a group. Sometimes people fight and just... split up. Go on their own adventure. Then come back more mellowed out. And maybe you're right, but still, if they ever set him lose on us? That's not foe I'd look forward to.

It just kind of does. We do this thing and swipe the code, the D-Scanner runs it through some kind of anti-virus thing, I think, and then boom! Clean code. [Bad, bad memories.] A few times.

It usually was just because of fighting, but we finally figured out that it wasn't helping. It's a long story. I hope I'm right, because he really doesn't sound like somebody I'd want to fight either.

Weird...we've never had anything like that, not really. [A pause] ...bummer.

That's good. Kouji and I still fight a lot. [As in, they're still fighting even now. Snarky, snarky Kouji.] We really need to get all the Digidestined and Digimon here together and just talk about things like this sometime. One of the other new kids - Takato? - he and I are from the same year... but I don't think it's the same world at all. Once you get time you're going to have to tell me that long story... He's an okay guy, so long as you don't get him mad.

What kind of shape is your Digital World in? And that wasn't so bad, we always got them back in the end.

Yamato and I always fought a lot right up until the very end. Even now we fight a lot, but he's still one of my best friends. Maybe you and Kouji will wind up the same way, who knows? That'd help a lot. There's a lot of us here now, but everybody seems to come from different years and different times and stuff. Takato apparently lives in a world that he says only knows about our adventures because of a TV show. It's way too real to be a show, but that's what Takato said, and the way he evolves with Guilmon's something I've never heard of either. Whenever you have time, I can probably tell you everything about what we did there. I'll keep that in mind though, not to make him mad.

Hmm...when we were on the trolley to head back home, the Digital World was actually repairing itself and seemed to be balanced. Daisuke's from three years into our future and he said it was unbalanced again but we fixed it again. I think it just needs constant fixing, but at least in the future it's easier to go back and forth between home and the Digital World. And hey, that's definitely not bad if you win in the end.
