Hey, all of you guys who know how to actually use a sword! Anybody up for a sparring match? I need to get better with this thing eventually.

Haruhi, the spirits are still ignoring me so I give up. For those of you who are good at that sort of thing, how'd you get them to really talk to you? The only one who really listens to me is Nala...she's nice, and healing magic helps, but I want to learn more anyway.

Man, nearly two years in this place and I still can't get it.

[He's going to leave his journal open, but in between responses, he'll be going over some training movements with the sword he's acquired. Jack Sparrow has taught him well...and Sparrow's taught him some other things, too.]

I can think of a lot of people that would figure out how to fetch me back. That's not even a real question.

It don't take magic to bring a man back, son. Just takes a measure of luck and the correct navigational charts, is all.

That, Taichi, was the only time. [The pirate finds a comfortable tree to slouch back against, folding his arms.] And I'd only bring another back if it were worth my while, savvy?

Right...but what determines that? Like how do you know if something's going to be worth your while?

Well at times it's speculation, isn't it? A gamble. Weighing the odds, the payback that you might expect, versus the cost. You don't always win, son; but you learn and do better next time. Still--I've never been in that position, yet, so I dunno.

...I'm used to winning most of the time anyway. [It's not really bragging, it's more matter-of-fact. You get that way after lots of battles, it seems.] But I get your point. It makes enough sense.

Right. So, a question: what would you do different-like next time, to win that battle you just lost so miserably?

Use a different sword and surprise my opponent earlier. That would work, don't you think?

Would possibly help, yes--but I've a more better solution for woefully outmatched battles: Run. Away.
