[Early in the morning, Taichi's wandered to the back of House #48 after searching the rest of town and his own tree house. He sits on the ground and more than anything, he sounds frustrated]

Yeah, she would. She's always worried more about me and the others than herself. ...magic? I never really thought about it, no. Is contacting the spirits hard?

I suppose that depends on who you ask.

It's true that some spirits like to make themselves more unavailable than others, but if you're persistent enough, and they come to trust you, it's not that difficult in the long run.

How do I find them? Just wander around until I see them?

Well... they aren't exactly visible. Since they are elemental spirits, they become attracted to you when you go to certain areas, or immerse yourself with certain elements. It's a matter of listening for their voices, though the lesser spirits sometimes serve as a help or a hindrance to that breakthrough.

So how do you know when you hear their voices versus you just hearing voices in your head?

Haha. Their voices are very distinctive. Believe me, you'll know.

Maybe I'll look then. Sounds interesting enough.

Indeed. There are seven different spirits... is there any element you're interested in particular? It would be a start, in any case, once you're ready.

...hmm. Probably fire. That'd be my best guess.

Eferin is one of the more difficult ones, though he's easiest heard in the forest area. You wouldn't have to go far from your tree house at all.

Really...? So if I can get him to trust me, then I can learn how to control fire?

Yes, in the long run. There are limits, as with everything, but... would you like a small demonstration?

[She holds her free palm up, as the other is still holding that barely-touched sandwich that she might forget about, and then murmurs something barely audible -- a complement to the spirit Eferin, before a tiny ball of fire appears, floating just above her hand.]

[brb staring at Raine's hand in disbelief forever] Whoa! Way cool!

[She smiles at his expression] I find it very useful for when it's dark out. Though it's best for outdoor use, of course, unless you're just lighting a lantern, or a candle. That's a preciseness that practice will get you.

That's amazing! [still staring at the flame] And the fire spirit taught you how to do that?

That's right.

I take it that there aren't really any forms of magic in your world?

Nothing we can do, but the Digimon have special attacks they can use. Agumon's are based around fire.

Ah, I see. No wonder it was the first to come to mind for you.

Yeah...he can breathe out these huge balls of fire and he'll throw them around in his bigger forms and everything.

That sounds impressive. Digimon... I wonder how many there are, and how many species have been recorded. They're just like monsters, correct?

It totally was, but all of them had pretty impressive attacks. I'm not sure how many of them there are, but they're all either Data, Virus, or Vaccine type monsters. Most of them are nice, others...not so much. They're just like any other monster.

Data, Virus, Vaccine... those are interesting clarifications. Would you know the difference between them? As in, is there any particular trait that determines the group they belong to?

Usually the virus type are evil and stuff but the data and vaccine Digimon are the good kind. Our allies were made up of data and vaccine Digimon.
