Thirty-Eighth Flame - [Voice/Action]

Hey, all of you guys who know how to actually use a sword! Anybody up for a sparring match? I need to get better with this thing eventually.

Haruhi, the spirits are still ignoring me so I give up. For those of you who are good at that sort of thing, how'd you get them to really talk to you? The only one who really listens to me is Nala...she's nice, and healing magic helps, but I want to learn more anyway.

Man, nearly two years in this place and I still can't get it.

[He's going to leave his journal open, but in between responses, he'll be going over some training movements with the sword he's acquired. Jack Sparrow has taught him well...and Sparrow's taught him some other things, too.]

She thoroughly schooled you, son, is what. You alright?

Yeah, I'm fine. [Just embarrassed. And his ego's incredibly bruised.] I've been in tougher battles than that.

Tougher, eh? And still alive? You must be even luckier than I am, lad.

That's what happens when you fight monsters a lot.

Fighting monsters, is it? Ever encounter a kraken, boy?

[identity profile] goggle-syndrome.livejournal.com 2011-02-10 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No...ever encounter a Gesomon?
all7seas: (hmmmm....)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-02-10 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
.....That's a Korean noodle dish, is it not? I fancy the Angry Fisherman's Destiny platter, m'self.

[identity profile] goggle-syndrome.livejournal.com 2011-02-10 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
...no! He's a giant squid-looking Digimon.
all7seas: (ewwww)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-02-10 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, lad--my hope is that I'll never encounter a gessiedigiwhatsit, if that be the case. Ever. Never ever. Can't abide tentacled things, myself.
all7seas: (a sailing lesson)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-02-10 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, much more worse: because of being eaten by said kraken.
all7seas: (I'm Captain Jack Sparrow son)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-02-11 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm only alive again because far too many people missed me to just let me stay dead, lad. I'm Captain Jack Sparrow, son.

[identity profile] goggle-syndrome.livejournal.com 2011-02-11 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
So wait, wait, wait. Lemme get this straight. You died and then people revived you? Like with magic or something? [Because well, he's died, too, but Luceti's what brought him back.]
all7seas: (a sailing lesson)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-02-11 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I died and people fetched me back. Difference. Would no one fetch you back, son, should it happen to you?

[identity profile] goggle-syndrome.livejournal.com 2011-02-11 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I can think of a lot of people that would figure out how to fetch me back. That's not even a real question.
all7seas: (must be a tiny thing behind the Pearl)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-02-11 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It don't take magic to bring a man back, son. Just takes a measure of luck and the correct navigational charts, is all.

[identity profile] goggle-syndrome.livejournal.com 2011-02-11 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Was that the only time you had to be brought back, Jack? Or have you had to bring other people back?
all7seas: (dogwatch)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-02-12 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That, Taichi, was the only time. [The pirate finds a comfortable tree to slouch back against, folding his arms.] And I'd only bring another back if it were worth my while, savvy?

[identity profile] goggle-syndrome.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Right...but what determines that? Like how do you know if something's going to be worth your while?
all7seas: (like which fury hell hath no)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-02-13 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Well at times it's speculation, isn't it? A gamble. Weighing the odds, the payback that you might expect, versus the cost. You don't always win, son; but you learn and do better next time. Still--I've never been in that position, yet, so I dunno.

[identity profile] goggle-syndrome.livejournal.com 2011-02-13 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
...I'm used to winning most of the time anyway. [It's not really bragging, it's more matter-of-fact. You get that way after lots of battles, it seems.] But I get your point. It makes enough sense.
all7seas: (a sailing lesson)

[personal profile] all7seas 2011-02-13 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. So, a question: what would you do different-like next time, to win that battle you just lost so miserably?

[identity profile] goggle-syndrome.livejournal.com 2011-02-13 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Use a different sword and surprise my opponent earlier. That would work, don't you think?
