Long story short, throwing yourself in danger on purpose to make a Digimon evolve can backfire really bad.
Yup. Like...one night on File Island Leomon was possessed by this thing called a Black Gear that made the good Digimon evil and he was about to kill me when the Digivice lit up and the light drove the gear out and he became normal again.
